INTRODUCTIONCharles Shea High School is one out of the three high schools in Pawtucket Rhode Island. Shea is an extremely diverse school with students from fifty different countries and has an enrollment of about 1,188 students. The current principal of the school is Donald Miller who has really helped the school in his short time there. A few years ago due to low test scores the state was going to take over the high school but the next year test scores improved so the take over never happened. Their schools quote is "Something Special Is Happening Here"

DISTRICT The pawtucket district being compared to Barrington, Central Falls and the overall state of Rhode Island was very mixed. The NECAP assessments showed the different districts and how they compared to each other. Although Pawtucket was very far behind compared to Barrington, Pawtucket did do better than Central Falls but unfortunately not by much. Even though the assessments might not be very good in some data it showed that Barrington and Pawtucket had the same student to teacher ratio being 1:12 while Central Falls was 1:10. The students in the Pawtucket are taught by teacher who are qualified in what they do with only 1% being not highly qualified, while Central Falls has 6% of not highly qualified teachers.

Unfortunately Pawtucket and Central Falls really fall behind when compared to the state and compared to schools in Barrington. Barrington is also much wealthier than the Central Falls and Pawtucket which may be taken into account because the district that both schools are in have a lower income rate. Because of these statistics it can be said that there may be a correlation between income in a district and the schooling the students receive.

All the data shown in the tables above really shows how the schools are really different. Shea High School was below the state average in every subject of the NECAP assessment, but Barrington High School was off the charts. What really stood out was the AP scores. There were only five students that took the tests out of thousand students that attend.
CONCLUSIONIn conclusion Charles E. Shea High School is really in need of some help. They are really below in every subject while compared to Barrington and even the state average of all the schools. Also since they are in a low income district that could definitely be a reason for this. This high school although may have extreme spirit needs extreme help academically which is beyond the students control and should really be brought to peoples attention.
